All Washington's children should spend their childhoods safe, healthy and learning! When children and families need help, public programs should be there with support. Washington lawmakers are considering legislation to create a new cabinet-level Department of Children, Youth and Families.
This is an historic opportunity to improve outcomes for all Washington's children and youth!
Children's Alliance supports 4 key priorities for the new department: racial equity, accountability to outcomes for children, sufficient funding, and a continued focus on early learning.
Tell your lawmakers to support the Department of Children, Youth, and Families!
In November 2016, the Blue Ribbon Commission on the Delivery of Services to Children and Families released recommendations for a proposed Department of Children, Youth and Families.
The Department would provide the early learning, child welfare and juvenile justice services that are currently spread out over the Department of Early Learning, Children’s Administration, Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration, and the Office of Juvenile Justice.
This would be a cabinet-level state agency that would; emphasize prevention, intervention, and early learning; report directly to the Governor; and be accountable for improving outcomes for children, youth, and families.
Speak up for kids! Send your message to lawmakers now.
