The KTA’s legal and policy teams, in partnership with other advocacy organizations, have been hard at work on federal bills like SITSA, the “Stop the Importation and Trafficking of Synthetic Analogues;” bills that, while trying to change the course of the nation’s opioid epidemic, have the potential to ban Kratom because of its alleged similarities to scheduled opioid drugs.
To update you all, Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6 that combined 58 different bills (including SITSA and the SCREEN Act, “Stop Counterfeit Drugs by Regulating and Enhancing Enforcement Now” that both attempt to stop deadly synthetic opioids from being shipped into the U.S). But both of these bills contain such broad definitions of the substances covered that they could ban natural botanical plants and herbs. This package of bills has been sent to the Senate for debate.
Unless the Senate supports amendments to exclude natural botanical plants and herbs in these bills, Kratom could be banned nationwide!

"Hello, my name is _____, and I am a constituent of yours. I am calling to let you know my position on SITSA, SCREEN, and other bills aimed at curbing the opiate epidemic that recently passed the House of Representatives as a package under HR 6.
I believe some of these bills as written, like SITSA and SCREEN could ban natural botanicals and herbs which I take regularly for my own personal health and well-being. Please support any/all amendments protecting access to natural herbs and botanicals for the millions of responsible consumers nationwide. Or please vote NO on the package of bills. Thank you for your time"
